Saga of our day in the DMV office...

While I was in the UK my license expired and I was sick in the hospital when it happened so was unable to renew and by the time I tried to renew it online it was too late. The last time I was here we never got the chance for me to go in and take the test. I had to take the written as well as the behind the wheel. :( Not a fun perspective.

So I have been reading the drivers book again refreshing my mind on everything and also doing an online refresher on all the signs and what questions they would ask. Its been 20 years since I took the test. Some things become just second nature and you really don't think about it so I wanted to be prepared.

On Thurs we went for me to take the test only to have me fail the eye test!!!!! So I had to go in to an eye doctor to have him sign a paper stating that I have a problem with my left eye that cannot be fixed with glasses but that does NOT hinder me in driving. (my left eye is turned a mil off) Got an appointment for Friday morning all went well got the paper signed but the DMV office was closed and nothing was open until Wed.

So on Wed morning we arrived at 10 in hopes of getting home by lunch. It was not too long of a wait and I took the written test and got it done pretty fast and passed. The next step was to take the behind the wheel.......1 hour later they got to me to take the test..........only to get outside and as she did her normal check of car the crack that is in my mothers windshield was a problem....so we went back inside. (it did not even acure to either my mom or me that it would be a problem)

Mom called dad to see if his truck would work but he said he too had a nick so mom started calling around to see if anyone had a car I could use for the test. Mom called Karen to see if we could borrow one of there cars, well the one we were thinking actually the engine blew up last week! and the other one had loose steering......so we called Steph to see if she had Josh's car. No Josh had taken it. well a few minutes later Cephas called to say he would bring his car around for me to use..... he happened to be with Steph when we called......so we waited for him to get there.......

My brother happened by just then and got some granola bars f
or us from the store as we were getting hungry from sitting there for so long....he offered me his truck to use but I was afraid to try parallel parking in it...

Cephas arrived about 12.30 and we waited some more as they got really busy about that time.......finally they got me about 1.15...so we headed out to the car and she did the same routine of checking the car out and guess what??????

THE HORN DID NOT WORK!!!!!! can you believe it!! She had me try everything to get it to work could not get it to work so we headed back inside. unbelieving that here we were again with out a car to take the test...... Cephas went out and tried it himself and then decided to go have it looked at to see if it was just a fuse.......5 minutes later he called to say they are not sure what was wrong but that he was heading out to Joshua's work to get his car and leave his car with him.....but he was going to check everything on Josh's before he comes back.......

By this time I started to feel shaky from not eating anything other then the bars.....I was worried I would not be fit to drive so I went over to the shop and got something to eat and got my mom something to drink as thats all she wanted.....

When I got back (by this time its 2.30) one of the other mothers who son was taking the test offered me to use her car. I was a little nervous at the thought of driving a strangers car but we called Cephas to see where he was and he actually was on his way back. So we thanked her but decided to wait till he got back.

Cephas arrived with Josh car and we waited again for them to be able to take me out........3.20 she finally got time to take me out AGAIN!! On our way out the door the lady turned to me and said "lets hope third times the charm" and this time.........

The car PASSED!! Even the instructor was so glad she started singing the Hallelujah Chorus!!!

And so off we went and I took my test. Did find on parallel parking (thanks for the smaller car) and passed!

When we got back we were both laughing so hard at how long it took to finally get it sorted. I told her she was going to be so glad to see me leave. She was just glad we finally got it sorted.

We left the DMV office at 4.15. We ended up being there 6 hours!

Oh but what a day....I had left Baby K at home with my dad and she is still nursing so I kept calling to see how she was....she was happy but was REALLY happy to see me when I did get home.

We saw alot of different people come through the DMV office. And lets just say I have alot of respect for those woman that work in that office. After being closed for 5 days they were absolutely swamped. We thought about coming back another day but all of us wanted to get it sorted. They were so patient with all the questions that were coming in and also the amount of people that came in with wrong information or needed to get more information.

Now I can drive again......few thats a relief! I now don't always have to rely on others to drive me or the children. It will be nice to be back behind the wheel again....

THEN to end our day....... we arrived home to find that the boys had been walking all around the house with muddy shoes and Bapa and them had tried to wipe/mop it up and it smeared all over the floor. We had to just let it dry sweep it and now we are mopping mopping mopping! :)

Well that's the saga of our day at the DMV office.....we had planned it one way and it went another but it did end nicely and now a big

Uncle Cephas!!!!!

for saving the day!!!!

thoughts for today.

This expert is from a book of sermons by Ebenezer Erskine.

This is his third answer to the question:

What it is to obey the voice of the Angel of the Covenant?

It implies a belief and persuasion of what the Angel speaks to be the voice of God. It is said of the Thessalonians, that they "received the word, not as the word of men, but as it is indeed the word of God." The man he looks above and beyond the earthen vessel through which the word is conveyed, and hears God himself, whose voice is full of majesty and power. Sirs, as long as the devil can persuade you, that your ministers are only speaking their own thoughts and conceptions, he is easy how much or how frequently you hear the word, for he knows well, that until you hear the word preached as the voice of Christ, your hearing will do no service unto your souls, or no hurt unto his kingdom. You know that while Samuel did mistake the voice of the Lord, as if it had been the voice of Eli, he ran the wrong way; so while men come and hear the word preached, and fancy that it is only the voice or word of a man like themselves, they will run the wrong way; it will never have any impression upon heart or life, to turn them from sin unto GOd: but whenever the voice of Christ is taken up in the word of providence, they run directly to the Lord himself, saying, as Israel did , Jer 3 "Behold we come unto thee, for thou art the Lord our God. In vain is salvation expected from the hills. and from the multitude of mountains: in the Lord God alone is the salvation of his people"

cuneiform tablets.

Last week the children and I made cuneiform tablets for history. This is the way the Sumerians wrote. They each got to write there names out and then put a picture of something on it too. We then wrote there names in english so they could see the english letters next to the cuneiform ones.

We used a baking clay I made and then baked it in the oven for 1 hour. It was interesting to see how they turned out. They had so much fun making them and then showing them off.

Above is the only picture I managed to get. But you can see them ok.

Ice Experiment.

Last week we were learning about the ice age. We did a test to see how long the children could hold an ice cube in there hands to see how cold things really got. As you can see from the picture Bapa got in on the action. L did not even hold it from one second. Bapa lasted about 30 sec. R dropped it after about 2 minutes. C kept going. We finally had him drop the ice after about 3 minutes. He really has tough hands.

Enjoy!

Monkey Bread

Last week I made some monkey bread with T. He really enjoyed making it. He was so proud of himself and when it was all done he served it up with such joy.

Cutting the dough.

Shaking the dough in cinnamon and sugar.

Placing them carefully in the pan.

Displaying his finished project with a big smile.

Sorry I cant turn the pictures. these were taken on my moms phone and I haven't been able to figure out how to turn them.

Enjoy!

How to fold an Origami camel

Oragami lessons

Today the children learned how to make some origami animals. R and L did a camel and C did an alligator. It was fun for them to learn. We have been learning about different animals in science so decided to try and make them. I have posted below this one a video of how to make the camel.

Here is a picture of the children's creations. The white one is Cs alligator and the orange and cream on are the camels. there kind of hard to see here but you get the idea. Sorry its the best I can do right now.

Elephant Toothpaste.

Today we had our first Science experiment! We made foam or what is called Elephant toothpaste. I have these two photos to show what we did. We used yeast, warm water, dish soap, hydrogen peroxide and food coloring. It was very interesting to see the results.

School is going well. Our new schedule seems to be working pretty well. I think I am going to have to add a few more chores in the morning as the children finish the ones I have given them so fast and ask for more. :) kind of a nice problem to have. :)

Yesterday we got to spend the afternoon out at my sisters house. The children had so much fun playing inside as well as outside. They love seeing their cousins.

Prayer meeting tonight so have to get Supper made and children ready to go.

First post.

There have been alot of new things happening over the last year so why not try a new blog. :) As many of you know we have started home-educating all our children this year. It has been challenge but a fun one. They all seem to enjoy it.

We have had another addition added to our family in the last year, In fact K turned one on Sat! It is hard to believe it has already been one year. She is such a delight to all of us. The year I was pregnant with her and this last year were very hard. I had alot of complications during her pregnancy as well as after, but the Lord saw fit to bring us both safely through it all. The children all love her to pieces. In fact if Im not careful they all will spoil her. :)

Today was our first day of our new schedule. And it went pretty well. We have managed to get alot done. still some kinks to work out but over all I think it will go well. With four children in four different grades there are so many things to learn and making it fun for all is quite a challenge but one I am enjoying!

I hope to keep you all up to date on what is happening in school as well as recipes, sewing tips, stamping tips. and generally what is happening in our everyday life. I will try and post as often as I can but cant make any promises of posting every day.

So now that I have brought you all up to date on what is happening in our house I am off to make spaghetti for supper tonight.
